I have worked with hundreds of sales leaders, business owners and salespeople. All of the top performers I have worked with have worried. But, that's ok. They are still happy. They still love what they do. They have never lost their enthusiasm for sales and sales coaching. They still love the challenge. But, they use that innate sense of worry to eliminate complacency. They can never rest. They can never believe that they are the finished article. That they have learned all there is to know about sales and selling.

When you own a sales target, you worry. You worry that you might not hit it.
When you hit the sales target, you worry. You worry that you might not hit the next sales target.
When you manage big clients, you worry. You worry that you might lose them.
When you lose a big client, you worry that it might be just the beginning. Those others might follow.
When you lose a deal on price, you worry. You worry that your competitors are more competitive than you.
When you win you worry about when you will get the next win.
When you hire a new salesperson, you worry that they might not succeed.
When they succeed, you worry that they might leave.
When you invest in sales training and coaching, you worry. You worry if it is just wasted money.
When the investment works out, you worry “am I just training these people for a future employer?”

Getting Better With Worry
I have worked with hundreds of sales leaders, business owners and salespeople. All of the top performers I have worked with have worried.
But, that’s ok.

In a strange twist of fate, their worry leaves them less worrisome. By keeping a healthy sense of unease in their working lives and using that energy to focus themselves on being better. They get better.

I’m a worrier too. I can’t help it. I can’t relax either. But, I am happy. I get to do what I love. That is the gift.

Do you worry enough?
